What used to be toys for kids, are now toys for adults. If you haven’t heard, LEGO technic is an “advanced” version compared to standard LEGO’s. Technic features pull-back motors, electric controlled motors, gears, and more! Either way, gearheads are known for collecting strange car memorabilia. If you are a fan of Formula 1 and/or building something cool, this is for you! Check out our list of some of the coolest LEGO Technic Formula 1 sets available.
LEGO Technic Formula 1 Grand Prix Racer 42000
The first set in this list would be the LEGO Exclusive Technic Grand Prix Racer 42000. Not replicating any specific car, this Formula 1 Lego set contains 1141 pieces and recommends ages 11-16.
This model comes with a plethora of features, including a V8 engine with pistons that move with the rotation of the wheels! Furthermore, you can find features such as an independent, all-wheel suspension for a more realistic play, adjustable rear spoiler, and realistic steering controlled by a gear on the monocoque. In addition to its already large playability, the engine cover can also open up with a gear on one side near the engine and the back wheels.
This set also comes with an alternate build, which is the Race Truck. This alternate build comes with an engine with moving pistons, independent front-and-rear wheel suspension and an engine hood that can open up with the knob at the back or you can shift it to adjust the rear wing.
All in all, the set is great for both display and play. Its value is definitely worth the cost!
LEGO Technic: Black Champion Racer 42026
Next up is the LEGO Technic Black Champion Racer 42026. This LEGO set is one of the smaller, more affordable set on our list. Now, this LEGO set doesn’t quite replicate any Formula 1 car, but it is still pretty cool. In particular, this set has 138 pieces and recommends ages 7-14.
This model features a pull-back motor for playability and a distinctive black and orange color scheme for sleekness. Instructions for this kit is pretty straightforward. As a matter of fact, this is one of my personal favorites mainly for its size.
A cool feature is that you can combine this set with the LEGO Technic Desert Racer set to create a Race Truck with two motors both for the rear set of wheels.
Ultimately, this set is a great little kit with plenty of parts to choose from if you decide to move on from it. The pull-back motor, sleek design, and an amazing color scheme with chrome decals make this LEGO Technic set a winner. *Note, this kit maybe discontinued by LEGO. We put a link to the kit available on Amazon.*

LEGO Racers: Ferrari F1 Racer 1:10 Scale 8386
Now, for a more old-school kit. This kit was originally created back in 2002. It’s a 1:10 scale replica of a Ferrari F2002, one of the most successful Formula One car designs of all time. This LEGO Technic Formula 1 kit contains 719 pieces and recommends ages 9+.
This LEGO Technic Formula 1 set may not have any suspension components, but it still has steering controlled by a knob in the seat area. The engine cover can be removed by pulling out the two pins on the back. Doing so reveals the transparent V10 engine with pistons that also moves as the wheels move. The decals that come with the set actually represent some well-known F1 sponsors, like Shell and Vodafone. This set may not have much playability, but it is still a really cool model to have, especially for its resemblance to one of the most successful F1 car of all time.
LEGO Racers: Ferrari F1 Racer 1:8 Scale 8674
This set is really similar to the last one shown on this list. This is a 1:8 scale replica of the exact same car, the Ferrari F2002. This set has a whopping 1242 pieces and recommends ages 10-16.
This LEGO Technic Formula 1 set, unlike the last, has all-wheel suspensions. It also has front-wheel steering, controlled by the steering wheel, and a removable engine cover, covering a solid V10 engine with pistons that move along with the back wheels. Many of these features are either identical or very similar to the features of the LEGO Technic Formula 1 set’s above. Although this car is basically just the one above, especially with its decals, it is more sturdy and less flimsy than the 1:10 scale model (this is seen by its piece count.) This car would make an excellent display with its design as well as a good plaything with its stronger structure and functions.
LEGO Racers: William F1 Team Racer 8461
Finally, an F1 car replica that’s not a Ferrari (no offense Ferrari.) This is the Williams F1 Team Racer model replica, comprising of 1848 pieces and recommend ages 11+
This model features an all-wheel suspension and steering that is usable by the steering wheel in the seat area. Furthermore, the engine cover can open up by flicking a lever in the monocoque that activates a hydraulic system, pushing the engine cover up. This reveals a really well-done engine. The piston engine here is a transparent V10 engine with, again, moving pistons.
The engine cover is also retractable, and just like the last two F1 replicas, this set comes with decals that represent some famous sponsors, like FedEx and HP Invent. This may be the first F1 car model that I have actually seen with a hydraulic engine cover lift, which already makes this set cool. This set also has quite the playability and design, making it both a nice construct and a fun plaything, no doubt worth its cost. By far, this is my favorite of all the LEGO Technic Formula 1 sets.
LEGO Racers: Ferrari F1 Racer 1:24 Scale 8362
Wow, another Ferrari. Man does LEGO LOVE Ferrari. This a 1:24 scale of the Ferrari F1 Racer, the exact same car as the two other Ferrari cars on this list. The only difference is that this is the first car in the entire list that isn’t a LEGO Technic set (it is completely basic LEGO bricks.) This set was created back in 2004 and is only comprised of 119 pieces, relatively small, and recommends ages 7+
This is a pretty basic and straightforward build. This model includes a pull-back motor for some racing action. Besides a pull-back motor, there isn’t really much to the set. I would personally just recommend this for children or car-model collectors, not really much for those in between.
LEGO Racers: Ferrari F1 Cargo 8185
This is a pretty cool kit. It comes with a small Ferrari F1 model and a Ferrari Truck model. Of course, the Ferrari Truck can store the F1 racer as well as its wheels and the mini-figures. The set comes with five Ferrari F1 team-member mini-figures and a few small constructs and tools. The F1 racer can hold one mini-figure, and the Ferrari truck can hold two mini-figures in the seat. The truck has two slidable drawers below the opening side door that houses a flag and a couple other tools. The roof of the seating area is removable and allows you to put in two mini-figures. I really like the truck and the playability of the set as a whole. This would be a really nice set to add to any collection.
LEGO Speed Champions: Scuderia Ferrari SF16-H 75879
This is one of the newer models. Its design is pretty different from the last few LEGO Technic Formula 1 set’s (mainly being not technic.) This set became available in 2017. Being one of the newest models, this kit contains 184 pieces and recommends ages 7-14.
Of course, this set is a replica of the Ferrari SF16-H, a Formula One car built to compete in the 2016 Formula One season. This set contains one Ferrari-racer mini-figure, a pit wall with a start-finish line, and the car replica itself. This Formula 1 set comes with decals that, as with many of the others, represent their actual sponsors. Out of all the basic LEGO sets in this list, this model has the cleaner and sleeker design, in my opinion.
That concludes our list of some of the coolest LEGO Technic Formula 1 set’s available!
